Set the master mouse easily when laptop is closed

In my case, the laptop is usually lying closed in the docking station, and I use the external mouse as my primary pointer input. I can attach more mice (I currently have two), but none of them is Master - I guess, I need to open the laptop to use its touchpad to set this up. I'd like to have an option to choose a master mouse upon application startup.
